so many guys don’t get the respect they’re due in the league. Guys like Gonchar. Guys like Zubov. Guys like Kassian Guys like Schlemko. Just tooth and nail guys living out a dream the hard way. Whatever it takes. That’s what made me love hockey. I’m not built like that. But that’s what made me love it. The pride, the dignity. Type of guys that were literally laying it all on the line with no safety net or no plan B. I remember watching the Colorado/Detroit rivalry and thinking to myself, I don’t know how they do that but I like it and I respect it. I was wearing matching pajamas sitting on the floor in the living room watching guys put every ounce and fiber of their strength into the sport, not just for them, but for the guys that wearing the same sweater as them. That’s really what it’s all about. The selflessness of the sacrifice. It was actually insane. There will never be another time like that for the rest of our lives, where guys truly played with their health on the line like it didn’t matter even though it does, all that mattered was winning. I love that. It’s so fucking sick dude. That’s what draws me to this sport. I’m so high right now. But that’s what really lured me in as a kid and still what makes me hoist such respect for these guys. All in it together. The warrior mentality. Never say die. The present is most important, act like it. That’s how the guys in the 90s and 2000s acted (and before that). It was a different type of pride. A different kind of mindset. I miss that
