@RunninHoopsPod The men's basketball program will instantly improve the second Harlan is dismissed. That guy is such a drain on this program. It's aggravating.
@MoorheadKeaton@FoulTerritoryTV@JimBowdenGM That 2015 situation was such a travesty. One game wildcard between the second and third best teams in baseball. Good grief that still stings more than a decade later.
@Cruz15Goat@AlexJStumpf Unfortunately, Pittsburgh needs to radically change the way it operates if it's gonna start winning. Matching offers of other suitors will never work for a team like Pittsburgh
@AlexJStumpf This is why Pittsburgh fails to acquire these FAs. Pittsburgh CAN NOT just match offers and expect to win. They HAVE TO offer more more more... make the FA turn down a massively better deal. That's how teams like Pitt have to operate if they are serious about winning.
@_johnleone If we had that new 8,000 seat arena right now, most games would be close to sell outs with that capacity - even though the team is in a rebuild and losing plenty of games. The difference between keeping the HC and getting a new place is as stark as night and day.
@_johnleone It is old, outdated, obsolete, a challenge for fans to get to, a concrete eyesore inside, has absolutely zero modern amenities, the bowl style seating is terrible, and is way way too large. No amount of renovating is going to make it into a first class environment that 1/2
@_johnleone All Utah fans - existing basketball fans and non basketball fans - would get a nice little jolt of energy and want to attend games there. That's how you inject life into the program. The best thing utah can do is build a new arena and put 8,000 seats in it. If we had that this
@_johnleone Another good example: look at the new baseball field Utah just opened. It's getting rave reviews and generating a lot of excitement among fans, even those who never attend baseball games. Now just imagine for a few seconds how it would be if we did the same thing for basketball.
@_johnleone new wallpaper, a shiny video board somewhere, some new curtains to hide the empty seats because the place is way too big, and call it good. If Utah fans could see the finished product of a new arena, I'm confident that NONE of them would want the HC back.
@_johnleone that are making it difficult putting butts in the seats. If they were talking about a complete tear down and rebuild of the HC, like they did with the football stadium, then maybe I could get behind that. But my feeling is they're gonna put some lipstick on the pig, put up some
@_johnleone ... the Runnin Utes need to adapt and modernize. They did a great job with the new basketball center, but they continue to refuse to do it with the actual arena. How many times have they renovated the HC already? Several times, and none of them do anything to address the issues
@_johnleone Look at any of the new college basketball arenas today and imagine having something like that on the U campus. I attended the U during the glory years of the late 90s, so I know full well how good it used to be. But those days aren't coming back. It's a new atmosphere now and...
@_johnleone ... this program needs. A new arena would solve all of them. Sticking with the HC only solves one issue: the "but look at the history" issue, which does nothing for the program. It also shows just how unserious this admin is about basketball. And I care about basketball a lot.
