Why was #FrederickDouglass incarcerated during Easter in 1836? Despite planning & forging travel passes, betrayal led to Douglass’s arrest during an escape attempt from the oppressive system of American Slavery. Douglass's resilience paved the way for his freedom 2 years later.
Happy 207th Birthday, #FrederickDouglass! The institution of American Slavery deprived enslaved Africans of many aspects of their identity, including their birth dates. In a defiant act against this brutal system, Douglass declared his birthday! #frederickdouglassjazzworks
