Statement on behalf of Terry McDermott and his family
We are heartbroken by the loss of our dear friend, Kevin Keegan.
Kevin was so much more than a teammate. He was a lifelong friend whose warmth, loyalty, humour and passion for football touched so many lives. The memories they shared, both on and off the pitch, will be treasured forever.
Although Terry’s dementia means he is no longer able to express his feelings publicly, we know how much Kevin meant to him and how deeply this loss would have affected him.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Jean, Laura, Sarah and all of Kevin’s family at this incredibly sad time. We hope they find comfort in the love and respect being shown for Kevin by so many people.
Kevin was one of football’s true greats, but to Terry he was, above all, a cherished friend.
He will be greatly missed and never forgotten. #nufc #lfc

𝗖𝗔𝗟𝗟𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗘𝗩𝗘𝗥𝗬𝗢𝗡𝗘 | This Saturday (1st November)
As you may have seen in the north-east press, 13-year-old Edie Smart tragically lost her life this summer off the coast of Whitley Bay. She was a very special young lady and is missed by so many people every day. The response from our local community continues to be overwhelming, her story touching people far and wide.
Edie was a member of Whitley Bay Football Club, where her Father continues to coach. In her memory, Whitley Bay FC and local rivals Whitley Bay Sporting Club are coming together to host The Edie Smart Cup at Foxhunters Pavilion this Saturday. We are looking for as much support and donation as possible to make this event a success.
The goal is to raise funds for the @RNLI and The Great North Air Ambulance service.
Please help in any way you can. Show up, donate, share....whatever you can do, will be a huge help.
Link to the justgiving page, which is already at a fantastic amount. Can we help boost that?

Whitley Bay FC are looking for a programme editor for the 2025/26 season. This is a voluntary role and while previous experience would be an advantage, it could provide valuable experience for a student studying sports journalism. If interested please email [email protected]
