August RTCSec newsletter 🧵
I just learned something about California auto insurance that I genuinely cannot believe is legal.
In mid July, my legally parked car was hit by a driver carrying only a $3,000 property-damage limit.
He had insurance through California’s Low Cost Auto Insurance Program (CLCA).
Normal California drivers are required to carry at least $15,000 in property-damage liability.
But under this state-created program, qualifying drivers can carry just $3,000 PER ACCIDENT in property-damage coverage.
Not $3,000 per car.
$3,000 TOTAL.
In my case, there’s allegedly another damaged vehicle making a claim against the same tiny $3,000 pot. My damage alone is already estimated at more than $3,000.
And here’s another part I didn’t know: California says qualifying drivers can participate regardless of immigration status, including drivers with AB 60 licenses (California driver’s license available to people who cannot provide proof of legal immigration status in the United States) provided they can prove they’re low-income.
So California created a system where certain drivers can legally carry a fraction of the liability coverage normally required—and when they cause thousands of dollars in damage, the innocent people they hit can be left fighting over $3,000.
I didn’t choose this insurance policy.
I didn’t cause the accident.
My car was PARKED.
Yet I may be the one left paying for damage someone else caused.
How does that make sense?
@shazif33@JakeTurx@bguygds Come visit me in Lakewood. I have a job with an EU company and I have my consulting business. But none of that is true becuase you decided it isn't.
@shazif33@JakeTurx@bguygds Again to @JakeTurx American Haredis don't ask for handouts. Many of us are very hard working and juggle multiple jobs to pay our bills.
@LammNachum1936@JakeTurx@bguygds Not really. I saw it every day when I lived in Isreael. I had a boss that was religious and zionistic. All his sons went to the army. Half of them are not religious today.
@deafprophet@JakeTurx I have a secret for you. You are in galus as well. Is the state of Israel ran according to Halacha? Do we have world peace? Do we have the temple? Are we still attacked by our neighbors?
And that's his point exactly. Some people aren't like you and can't move without certain things. I was living in Israel when I was single and got married. The first time my wife was there was two weeks after our marrige. After 2.5 years it was too much for her and we had to move back.
@DrHowardG115@JakeTurx It's the right way for them. He isn't forcing their ideas on anyone. He is simply stating there is a need to cater to a certain group of people and their needs.
@KassyAkiva Umevorach! It's my favorite time of the week. Just knowing you are about to disconnect for 25 hours from the world and just focus on what truly matters.
