Day 3 of the Data Governance Study Tour marked a significant milestone as the office convened a multi-stakeholder roundtable bringing together representatives from the private sector, civil society organizations, and Data Protection Authorities (DPAs) from across Africa.
The private sector and civil society organizations represented at the forum included @KCBInKenya , @awscloud (AWS), @SafaricomPLC, @Visa , @AmnestyKenya, the @Ke_Privacy_Pros Professionals Association (KPPA), and the @DataGovProsKe (DGPSK). Their participation enriched the discussions by bringing diverse industry expertise, practical experiences, and perspectives on the evolving data governance landscape.
The forum provided a valuable platform for open dialogue, enabling participants to exchange experiences, discuss emerging trends, and share practical best practices on data governance, cross-border data flows, regulatory compliance, and privacy protection. It also highlighted the unique perspectives and challenges faced by both regulators and organizations operating in the digital economy.
The roundtable further explored opportunities to strengthen regional cooperation, promote harmonized data protection frameworks across Africa, and create an enabling environment that safeguards individuals' rights while supporting innovation, digital trade, and sustainable economic growth.
As the study tour continues, ODPC remains committed to fostering dialogue, encouraging knowledge exchange, and strengthening partnerships that advance responsible data governance across the continent.

Can technology strengthen democracy?
At our Q2 Data Governance Café with the @DataGovProsKe , Hon. Justice Isaac Lenaola (Supreme Court Judge) and @article19eafric , we explored Elections, Data, and Digital Rights.
Key takeaway: data can empower participation but also fuel misinformation, disinformation, and TFGBV. Protecting digital rights during elections requires all of us.
