In 502 patients with colorectal cancer, greater MANE severity was associated with a worse morphofunctional profile across bioimpedance, ultrasound, handgrip strength and CT. This supports the biological plausibility of MANE.

From late outcomes to early vulnerability: introducing MANE.
At #ESPEN2026 we presented MANE, a composite outcome inspired by MACE, designed to capture early postoperative vulnerability and support more clinically meaningful body-composition thresholds.

At #ESPEN2026 we presented a multidisciplinary Delphi on nutritional care in upper GI cancer: 38 experts, 66/67 recommendations agreed (98.5%).
A practical step toward more consistent, coordinated and multidisciplinary care.

First time at ASPEN.
Our CT-based REE model received the International Abstract of Distinction.
CT enables accurate REE estimation + body composition from a single test, outperforming equations and BIA—especially in obesity.

Speaker at the 11th Vall d’Hebron Clinical Nutrition Meeting.
Key message: muscle quality (CT) enables early detection of nutritional risk in cirrhosis, before muscle mass changes.
Moving toward more precise morphofunctional assessment.
In November, we published “Sex-specific CT-derived muscle and fat phenotypes in colon cancer” in Frontiers in Nutrition. CT-based phenotyping reveals sex-specific risk: muscle quantity/quality in men, subcutaneous fat in women. Phenotyping means understanding tissue change.
Online at the XVI @CanariasSocaen Congress, I presented how AI and CT enhance body composition assessment in obesity by integrating tissue quantity, quality, and distribution. Proud to contribute to a congress held at home and to share the session with great colleagues.
On Nov 14th in Valencia, I led a practical session on CT-based body composition. Great insights from colleagues: CT proved essential for resolving diagnostic uncertainties when other methods disagreed. Inspiring to see younger clinicians using it to improve patient care.
On Nov 11th in Madrid, I delivered the “Beyond weight” workshop at #SEOM2025, sponsored by @Nutricia_es. We discussed how CT-based body composition and tools like FocusedON BC support early detection of malnutrition and sarcopenia. Grateful for the exchange.
On November 6th, I had the honor of serving on the PhD thesis committee of Andrés Jiménez Sánchez in Seville — a day marked by scientific rigor and passion for research.
Proud to share that our project “Body Composition by Computed Tomography and Gastric Cancer” has been awarded the #SEEN2025 Foundation Grant in Nutrition, sponsored by @Nutricia_es — advancing predictive, personalized oncological nutrition through collaborative CT-based research
First podcast! Sharing the work of these past years together with ARTIS Development | FocusedON, and our beginnings alongside Persan Farma. For and by the patient.
