This has, unfortunately, made accruing a huge amount of wishlist pre-launch very important again, and the likelihood of most indies getting onto the Popular Upcoming page a loooot harder.

Indie visibility was already tough, unfortunately it is now much tougher.

Steam just made a change that's really gonna hurt future indie games.

The Popular Upcoming page used to list games chronologically by release time. As long as you had enough wishlists to make the cut (~6k to 7k), you'd get some time at the top of the list for people to discover your game.

Now it's listed algorithmically, with far more large games from major companies and publishers on the list, even those releasing two weeks away. The lowest wishlist count on there right now is 80k, when before it would've been 10 indie games as low as 6k wishlists.

Feeling very lucky our game's early access release barely made it out before this changed. It was worth probably 1k wishlists for us, and we had some really unfortunate timing/positioning too. It can be worth thousands of wishlists and sales for smaller games.

Steam is more heavily prioritizing larger games, with the budget and time to grow to enormous wishlist totals, or the rare indie viral hit.

The small to mid-sized games just lost a way to find players. Steam players lost a tool to discover cool smaller games.

I don't get it. He's the face of a franchise that had a huge turn around, had huge moments during the season that highlighted the season. It's not if he's the best player, it's that he's the most popular/marketable for the last year.

And honestly, he has been.

@TGCCollectables Fluxates, but 9 is usually what I answer. Like the characters, villians, and I felt that the combat was in the sweet spot for what I wanted. Need to play it again one of these days though....

Uh, my question is when does it open the line and for how long. Like in theory this could be good, but I also see it becoming a race if you are just putting your spot in line, which is similar to before.

Apparently Target is changing the way they release Pokémon cards.

No more standing in long lines outside the store. Now you check in with your phone number and wait for a text when it’s your turn to buy.

Honestly this might actually give regular people a better shot at getting product instead of the same people camping every restock for hours.

Not perfect, but probably better than the chaos we’ve been seeing lately.

What do you guys think? Better system or nah?
