Please spare a thought for all the NHS lab staff who have processed millions and millions of tests over the past two years.
These people never get a mention, but they have worked tirelessly and helped save thousands of lives.
I've been doing #Microbiology since 1992. There's a lot of stuff that isn't in any textbook, and I've tried to remember relevant words of wisdom (or wry observations) from many colleagues over the years, as well as helpful historical aphorisms.
Like many jobbing microbiologists I am frustrated that #PHE guidance for vaccinated people is still so over-cautious, unlike the pragmatic #CDC. It undermines public confidence in the vaccines. This will only exacerbate our staffing probs in the coming winter of NHS discontent.
375000 kids off school.Thousands of adults allowed into football matches or Wimbledon tennis. We need to think clearly about what "living with endemic Covid" looks like, and stop making children's education suffer because of our fear and risk-aversion and fuzzy thinking.
Another brilliant piece of real life research by @dublinensis and infection colleagues across the UK showing prior Covid protects against reinfection even without detectable antibodies. Well done guys. @MedcardDivision@SWLPathology https://t.co/mbucN5zvOP

@TrustFordUK Chopping these trees down in a conservation area with high levels of air pollution already is shameful. Its going to take a lot of @TrustFordUK PR to rebuild confidence. This was a truly awful decision. Putting business before our environment and our futures.
My colleague Tim Planche did a nice weighted comparison of our #CovidImmunity paper with the other UK studies. Aggregate relative risk = 0.13, ie 87% protective effect. Millions probably already infected + recovered in UK, must be good news, although not part of PH policy.
I admit I'm pretty happy to be handing over this morning after 14 days straight on call and looking after so many Covid-19 patients in the clinical Infection Unit @StGeorgesTrust @MedcardDivision . Thank you wonderful colleagues, friends and family. Couldn't do it without you!
We are doing our bit @StGeorgesTrust to try and help society get back to normal. Our immune system treats covid like other respiratory virus and does protect us from reinfection for at least 8 months. Evidence for hope @DrRosena@S_Hammond@dublinensis https://t.co/zEwZRW5z4c
Prior COVID-19 significantly reduces reinfection for upto 8m. Fanastic and important work by @dublinensis and our Infection team/ SWLP @StGeorgesTrust and supporting the PHE SIREN data https://t.co/zEwZRW5z4c @SMHopkins@CotterMeaghan@mlaundy @PlancheTim @SWLPathology
We have identical findings @StGeorgesTrust (thanks to the hard work of @dublinensis and our team). Antibodies from prior infection give 97% protection from reinfection in HCW. Please let's discuss self isolation in those with antibodies or who have been vaccinated
Dear @PublicHealthW and @PHE_uk, can you please urgently consider revising self-isolation guidance for health care workers with prior infection or vaccination please?
Staff shortages caused by self-isolation cause harm now vs hypothetical risk later
