What is the largest population of people with genetic Alzheimer's? Can the 6 million individuals with Down syndrome obtain access to the new Alzheimer's antibody treatments? NO.
Key points:
- Disease-modifying treatments for #Alzheimer now available.
- Reducing amyloid plaques improves outcomes in early-stage Alzheimer.
- Down syndrome has been excluded from all trials.
- Only handful of any kind of AD treatment trials have included Down syndrome.
- Who is the largest population with genetically determined Alzheimer in the world? Down syndrome.
My take: I agree with the authors that in an era of diversity, equity, and inclusion, let's not leave persons with Down syndrome behind.

@NeilRJWatson1@smead2 Not many neurologists seem to consider it an option - suspect it's a combination of overemphasis of complications, and underappreciation of how effective it is compared with alternatives - which of course is a vicious cycle if it's never used.
@NeilRJWatson1@smead2 Last time I saw clozapine used in PD dementia/psychosis (2021), the recommended weekly blood monitoring and bowel side effects seemed quite onerous in this group, esp in the community 1/
Many congratulations to Dr Peter Rudge, who has become an Emeritus Professor of #Neurology at UCL for his outstanding work, particularly as a clinical neurologist with @MRC_Prion 👏👏👏
Dr Rudge has achieved national & international recognition, with over 230 published papers.

Open to budding cardiologists, and also to existing cardiology SpRs.
Do you work in biomedical #research? Do you also question your #antibodies? Dodgy antibodies waste time & $$$ + drive the reproducibility crisis. Let's talk about it!
