@emilykmm@imbethmccoll Agreed. Not excusing that behavior either. But at least those owners make sure their cat will be taken care of by leaving them at a shelter. Lucky the cat would be MUCH better off in a shelter it seems.
@musamonster@Gok@SwannMarcus89 If by recently you mean over 20 years ago. Anyone that’s 40 and under couldn’t have traveled abroad without a passport in their adult life at this point. Before 9/11 only 20ish% of Americans had their passport. And the Caribbean cruise point is only true for some ports.
@Schpyder@Gok@SwannMarcus89 Yes, I remember that, but it’s been over 20 years since that changed. Anyone that’s 40 and under couldn’t have traveled abroad without a passport in their adult life at this point. Before 9/11 only 20ish% of Americans had their passport.
@PghTransitCare Can you please check into why the Alfred St construction in Mt Lebo seems to be going on overnight (24 hrs) in a residential area? And it’s LOUD - jackhammers, cranes, smashing rails. This is going all month - us residents in this area need to be able to sleep!
@EpiEllie I think a lot of this is because people have taken their experience with COVID and extrapolated it. As you know, we have years of data on H5N1 and actually have a good understanding of how it behaves. People keep wanting to make this the new COVID, but it’s just… not?
@will79491 @emersoninaglass @_cingraham Supporting local farmers = supporting small business. They’re not perfect, but it’s a much better bet if you know right where their farm is, as opposed to buying organic milk from thousands of miles away. Lower carbon footprint too.
Must-read. I didn't realize this: organic milk producers can't give their animals antibiotics, and apparently many of them resort to horrible quack cures like packing eye infections with salt.
@_cingraham I’m seeing in the comments here that some people think there are antibiotics in conventionally produced milk. There aren’t! Any cows treated with antibiotics have their milk discarded until safe to drink. Also, antibiotics are not used for growth/prophylactically in dairy.
@JohnLorenzini@snyde043@_cingraham That’s literally conventional dairy farming. Especially in milk cows, antibiotics aren’t used prophylactically, because the milk would have to be discarded. Prophylactic use of antibiotics in other species is also quite rare due to newer regulations.
@canesfan25@StruggleBusEq Yep - this is usually to test the immunity (IgG) that the foal has gotten from the mare’s colostrum. It’s incredibly important to supplement the milk and/or give IV plasma if the IgG isn’t high enough to prevent catastrophic joint infections/sepsis.
@lscain3834@marklewismd@JLRudzinskiMD Our focus is to minimize or eliminate any unpleasant side effects in animals, so things like hair loss/weight loss/nausea just aren’t tolerated. The goal is very different - sometimes pets are cured, but more often it’s about making them comfortable doing the things they love.
@lscain3834@marklewismd@JLRudzinskiMD The focus with animals is completely different than with humans in chemo. Chemo can be one of hundreds of drugs. It literally just means ‘chemical’. Chemo in pets is focused completely on quality of life instead of quantity, so they often get very different drugs at smaller doses
@LaurenLee_915@single_spacer@hannahcrileyy I like part of this - she should be seen by a vet! But she definitely shouldn’t be given any medications without the advice of a vet! Safe for people does NOT mean safe for animals, especially when you don’t know their health status, history, weight, hydration, allergies…
@single_spacer@hannahcrileyy Please don’t. Will not help in this situation and may hurt. Even if Hazel seems ok, it absolutely wouldn’t hurt to have her checked vet by a vet ASAP though! Her regular vet or a housecall vet would be a great choice. But please don’t give any meds without a vet’s advice!

@boowiebear@FrancisOKC @LetItFlyTom Australia (8th) scores better in the Global Freedom index than the US (17th).
The freedom argument for guns is so weird. And fictional.
