The USA gov't senior advisor for Africa, Massad Boulos, advised Cairo to resolve the GERD issue technically rather than through political disputes. Ethiopia had previously advised Egypt to engage in dialogue, but Egypt opted for an ineffective strategy and poor approach instead.

MY VIEWS:

Ethiopia tops the growth ranking all 3 years from 2025 to 2027. Very impressive for a large EM African economy which has been implementing very significant economic reforms.

Ethiopia’s high growth rates are approximately double the SSA average.

The county recently launched several massive projects worth $30+ billion including a 100 million passengers $10 billion airport, $2.5 billion fertilizer factory, natural gas (LNG) production and an oil refinery.

South Africa, Africa’s largest economy, forecast to have the lowest growth rate. SA continues to significantly underperform and is a negative drag on SSA’s overall growth forecast. SA needs significant economic reforms to realize its growth potential.

Nigeria’s growth forecast is higher than previous years’. The government’s reforms are showing early postive results.

Kenya’s growth forecast is comparable to the previous years’. Steady growth but growing below its potential and 45% to 50% less than its larger neighbor, Ethiopia.

Sub-Saharan Africa's GDP growth to be 3.8% in 2025 and 4.4% annually on average in 2026–27.
