We’ve produced a blog for @HSRN_UK reflecting on our partnership with @Positive_Lives in investigating why people with learning disabilities and/or autism get stuck in hospital. A great opportunity to think over our process & different skills & how this helped our project.
💡The @Positive_Lives and @unibirmingham team reflect on the research project for which they were awarded an Innovation in Inclusion Award at #HSRUK23 - their work asked the question ‘Why are we stuck in hospital?’

📢 Today we’re launching our State of Caring survey 2023!
It’s vital that unpaid carers’ voices are heard. We’ll use what you tell us to raise awareness of the challenges carers face and campaign for change.
What are your priorities? Tell us now: https://t.co/gEP0XKtkVm
If you have experience of the transition from self-funding to local authority funding, please take part in our NIHR funded study, supported by @1adass, @CarersUK and @ageuksolihull
Today we're recognising everything family and informal carers do to improve the mental health of the friends and family they care for. Without their support many would struggle even more. They are often the unsung heroes of social care. #mentalhealthawarenessweek2023
I haven’t yet watched #Panorama - ADHD Clinics Exposed, so will make a more informed comment when I have done so.
I am, however, initially very concerned about the impact this is already having on the #ADHD community in the UK.
If we are fortunate enough to be able to find the resources, many of us HAVE NO CHOICE but to seek a private diagnosis, given the long waiting times on the NHS.
The majority of diagnostic clinicians for ADHD are incredibly thorough, knowledgeable and careful. Many have worked or still work for the NHS doing exactly the same job, and they do not carry out a different assessment process.
The ADHD Collective sincerely hopes this type of reporting does not add to the stigma of ADHD as a made-up, excuse-based, or insignificant condition - but early responses to the programme are worrying.
We wish more reporting time could be spent highlighting the reality of life with ADHD, furthering it's acceptance in society, and helping those who struggle with this serious, life-long, neurodevelopmental condition on a daily basis.
In the meantime:
YOUR STRUGGLES ARE VALID AND AREN’T YOUR FAULT
ADHD is real and highly stigmatised. Let’s all stick together when under ‘attack’ like this. WE WILL beat stigma and as we do so, there will be inevitable backlashes.

If any local authority employees find themselves no longer planning for the introduction of social care funding reforms in October 2023 and would like to share their experiences relating to self-funding and capital depletion, we’d love to hear from you as part of our research.
@BASW_UK What a great conference programme! Looking forward to sharing the insights shared by people who have experienced long stays in hospital & debating the implications for social work practice @JonGlasby@AnneMarieGlasby@DrBeckyBham
