Where in the body is the mental?
I know heart and lung and dental.
"Mental" is distracting-
It's the BRAIN that is reacting.
A healthy brain can be shown,
A healthy mental is unknown.
Now mental health should go away
So BRAIN health can be here to stay!
As long as we separate brains from the rest of the body's organs we will not achieve our goals. Where in the body is the "mental?" Please help promote the more appropriate name which is "BRAIN health" .
Half of my well visits today had a #mentalhealth concern. Anxiety, ADHD, depression. You name it. Addressing mental health issues is part of pediatric care. We need to learn the basics so that we can help these kids. #tweetiatrician#WorldMentalHeathDay
Another 19 dead, another 40 injured, and another community devastated. @sandyhook is right. We don’t have to live like this. Gun violence is not inevitable.
@DrBobBlock A good first step will be to adopt term “brain health” to help remove “mental” as a separate and not equal part of health. Where in the body is the mental? We know where the brain is!
This week is #SaySomething Week. Pediatricians and pediatric heath care providers have a role to play in reducing the risk of suicide among adolescents and young adults. Click here for resources: https://t.co/9kqMmjmHtj
@DrBobBlock@AmerAcadPeds JAMA Pediatrics article features children’s “mental health”. A serious problem indeed. But the brain is an organ in the body like any other - heart, liver, etc. let’s not separate the brain so it is ignored & underfunded. Replace mental with Brain Health
Thank you @Surgeon_General for officially declaring e-cigarette use among youth an epidemic in the United States. Pediatricians pledge to continue advocating & educating children & families on the addictive & harmful health risks from youth e-cigarettes. #NoEcigs4Kids#SGPledge
@DCDelMonte I agree. There must be a way to follow the amendment AS WRITTEN allowing gun ownership without sacrificing the lives of innocent children. We need to recognize “all adults once were children”. Our future as a nation relies on safe and encouraged children. Not on tragic deaths.
Dr. Bob Sege announces the release of the American Academy of Pediatrics policy, “Effective Discipline to Raise Healthy Children”. Parents should be encouraged to avoid corporal punishment. #AmericanAcademyofPediatrics
Attending conference with National Center on Shaken Baby Syndrome/Abusive Head Trauma. New parents can learn about new baby’s normal crying & how to respond safely @ Period of Purple Crying.
#VoteKids Here’s my reminder as midterm elections approach: All adults once were children! We must support candidates who propose ideas and programs that will bolster kid’s health and wellbeing.
@DrBobBlock Does anyone know about ACE score research involving prisoners in jails? I bet scores are high. Let’s spend $$ on children’s education and brain health support and less $$ on prisons!
Many years ago I watched children die from vaccine-preventable diseases. Tragic. This threat is returning as parents fall prey to false anti-vaccination. Responsible parents get kids vaccinated. @DrBobBlock
Diseases like measles and whooping cough are much less common than they used to be, thanks to vaccines. When fewer children get vaccinated, more children get sick. Learn about the 2018 recommended vaccine schedules today. #NIAM18#VaccinesWork https://t.co/BGxRTAdfBs
Routine childhood immunizations are vital to individual and society health. Higher immunization rates protect vulnerable children who are too young to be vaccinated as well as those who cannot be vaccinated for medical reasons. Learn more at https://t.co/n3zzswilLX
@tphurley69 No, but this great saying has been posted by my desk for years. What I woukd love to see on our “Block” History wall is my saying, “All adults once were children. “
