Returning from the annual DAC Conference in @dioceseoflondon last week with an absolute stinker of a cold, I am reminded of the monument to Edward Carew & his daughter Felicia, in the church of St George, Newbold Pacey @CofE_Cov @CofE_Churchcare

Local folklore claims Edward & his family came to the village to escape the plague in London only to discover that they’d brought the dreaded pestilence with them 🐀

Both he and 13 day old Felicia succumbed to it shortly after💀

Also, they have new and much needed facilities! This church is doing tons of stuff for the local community so getting WCs in was absolutely critical! There’s a secret door in that beautifully carved oak screen to gain access to them.

I didn’t spend too much time inside this time as we were focused on the churchyard, but you can just see the 13thC detailing on the arcade which was added when the nave was enlarged - very pretty! Will take better photos next time…
