@HelenBevan Affirmation is a Motivational Interviewing skill. Affirmations highlight an inner strength of the individual and usually
begin with “You”, different from PRAISE, which usually starts with “I” and suggest power differentials. “I am proud of you” vs “You are efficient in your work”

Using motivational interviewing to guide your patient conversation may help move the patient toward change or in this case surgery. Always respecting his autonomy to make the decision. I would use a skill called Ask-Tell-Ask.
