@becimay@rv_southern@LagrangePointL2 As a recent member of the department, I'm wondering how the uni is planning to staff term 2 modules in January that students have already chosen if staff made redundant in December...
@miniapeur Also, Exeter's global reputation and place in the Russell Group comes largely from excellence in humanities. Concentrating 85% of redundancies in Humanities seems massive self-sabotage.
@miniapeur It's partly about how money is spent. Do universities need multiple executives who earn more than the Prime Minister? Also at link: "EUCU has seen the uni's own modelling that shows the closing of the deficit by 2029, with £50m cash reserves, without compulsory redundancies."
Worrying from Exeter - the University it seems planning to slash humanities teaching while telling colleagues it is “in line with the government’s industrial strategy”. https://t.co/oLERjBmyf9
The University of Exeter has become the latest Russell Group university to announce major job cuts, insisting it “must” take action to reduce financial pressures #highered#jobcuts

Horrified to hear about mass redundancies @uniofexeter including up to 25% of the English department. The livelihoods of many excellent former colleagues are under threat, and if I hadn't moved a year ago this would have included mine. Please consider signing petition below.
@Simon_Gleaden@strda221@jdskyles Roman Catholic Relief Act 1829 section 18:
It shall not be lawful for any person professing the Roman Catholic religion directly or indirectly to advise his Majesty, ... touching or concerning the appointment to or disposal of any office or preferment in the [Church of England].
@becimay Sorry to hear that, Beci. Probably not identical situation but I successfully appealed against redundancy at Exeter after 7 years of continuous employment on supposedly fixed term contracts. UCU worth talking to!
@holydisrupter@Dek125813@Adrian_Hilton The prohibition in the 1829 Act is on "any of his Majesty’s subjects professing the Roman Catholic religion" advising on C of E appointments. Am I right to read this as excluding those who identify themselves as Catholic rather than those whom the Catholic Church so identifies?
@AndrewPaulWood@DrFrancisYoung Thanks! I'll check it out. If you'll excuse some self-advertising, you might be interested in some of the chapters in The Oxford Handbook of Allegory (out last week):

@Erik__Lundeen Apologies for not getting back to you two years ago now! Publication is now imminent. I could probably send a proof copy of the chapter if you are still interested. Alternatively, you might be able to get a review copy of the Handbook from OUP:

@PsalterMark@tolkienthoughts@malcolmguite Thanks for your interest! If you would like to review the book for an academic journal, you can request a review copy here (though it might be an electronic copy unless you can persuade OUP to send you hard copy):

After years in the making, The Oxford Handbook of Allegory is out imminently: 37 chapters by 41 contributors from 4 continents and multiple academic disciplines on allegory from Plato to Inside Out!
