Dr Heaney is a Consultant Anaesthetist at the Royal Infirmary Edinburgh and Honorary senior lecturer University of Edinburgh. He is the clinical lead for Neuroanaesthesia in the Dept of clinical Neurosciences in Edinburgh, and is an elected member of the RCOA Scottish Board.

We are honoured Professor Foss is travelling to Scotland to talk with us again. He is a Professor in acute Perioperative Pathophysiology and senior consultant in anesthesia and intensive care at Hvidovre University Hospital. Clinical work involves both anesthesia, perioperative care and intensive care.

Abstracts submitted to other competitions welcome, open to all anaesthetists, trainees, research scholars etc. Abstracts, research papers and case studies all welcome. The winning abstract from this year's competition will be published (informercial) in Septembers edition and circulated within the UK and internationally. As we know, in February last year a series of earthquakes killed over 55,000 people in Turkey and Syria, in the worst earthquakes the region has seen in 20 years. We are honoured to have Wing Comander David Hall join us at this year's Edinburgh Anaesthesia Festival (21-23 August) to present and describe the critical care transfer during these horrendous earthquakes. David Hall is a Royal Air Force Consultant in Intensive Care Medicine and Anaesthesia based in Edinburgh. He has extensive experience of critical care and aeromedical transfer. In 2023 he was appointed to the new role of Chief of Staff for UK military critical care.
