In the initial CFP rankings Texas was ahead of OU even with the Florida loss and OT games against UK & Miss state because head to head mattered. It wasnโt until the Georgia loss they dropped. So yes a 10-2 Texas would have been in since a 10-2 OU got in
I donโt think Texas gets in if they have some lay up win instead of the Ohio State loss. The committee saw them lose to an awful Florida team committee saw them play like crap against really bad Mississippi State and Kentucky teams. They rarely played well.
But the fact that it mightโve been closer, does explode expose a flaw in the system. The system still ranks on loss is way too much as opposed to quality of play and counting for opponent.

@osu200200@MattGalatzan For the record, told you Miami would jump Utah. So Texas definitely needs them to lose (granted Texas beats A&M) and get a lot of other help to even have a chance of making it.
@osu200200@MattGalatzan There is definitely a greater than zero chance they put Miami in. Especially if Pitt becomes ranked this week and Miami beats them next week. Wouldnโt be surprised if they move Miami above Utah for struggling against KSU. A Miami loss definitely helps Texas
@osu200200@MattGalatzan The Miami loss would help ensure the ACC is a one bid league, and not the ACC champ + Miami. A 9-3 Texas jumps a 9-3 Miami and would have a better chance at an at large bid.
@JoshPateCFB I am a fan of the show and understand the power rankings, but as a Texas fan I canโt see how Texas is favored over these teams. Could you explain what would actually have to happen on the field for the model to drop Texas more?
@dctf@TexasGuard@JohnMcSheffery at Commerce has back to back top 10 wins! Dominated #1 Winnsboro on the road and just handled #10 Malakoff at home. Him, the whole staff, and those boys deserve some recognition!
@RealSigmund@Mateer4Heisman_@UTBarstool I as a fan have never said big 12 championships donโt count. I still think conference championships have lots of value and should be one of the goals every team has at the beginning of the year. Unfortunately the 12 team playoff is changing lots of peoples mindset on that though
@Kevin_mr_osu @Mateer4Heisman_@UTBarstool Never said the won the CFP. Said they won a conference championship and went to the CFP which is more than most teams could say that year
@samnestler I was at the first game that line was put together against Tampa Bay and I called the Hintz game winner with a few minutes left in the 3rd!
Losing at home as a 20+ point favorite to a .500 team = dropping 4 spots and still hosting a first round game
Losing on the road by one possession to a 9-3 team = dropping 6 spots out of the playoff game completely
It doesnโt make sense. #CFP
