If it’s infectious, I’m interested. I use evolutionary analyses to guide computational investigations of proteins from pathogens @CUBiosciences @AimlacCommunity

So the H5N1 virus that spilled over from cows to a human has acquired a mutation associated with mammalian adaptation.
This is what RNA viruses do when faced with a new host: adapt or die.
To prevent further adaptation, we need to stop further cross-species transmission.
This valedictory message is an outstanding piece of writing about life (from one very well lived) - something for everyone to read and reflect on. https://t.co/HbkUSlbYSG
Every mutation that could exist, does exist. That has only been true for ~200 years. Most beneficial variants just haven't had the time to become ubiquitous. But now, at least 50 people in the world have every possible mutation in the human genome.
Are you interested how #epistasis shapes the AMR evolution?
We showed that epistasis can be caused by independently modulating substrate binding and the chemical step ultimately changing the rate-limiting step in the catalytic cycle. @NatureCatalysis

Some of our thoughts regarding the clusters of pneumonia among children which was seen in China during November 2023.
Macrolide resistance is an issue in some regions which may impact on patient management and outcomes.

Exciting times!
We have been awarded the ESCMID Study Group Collaboration Grant for 2024. These funds will support a new collaboration between @ESGMAC_escmid, @ESGEM_ESCMID & @ESGMD_escmid 1/4

@ATinyGreenCell You could try “Playing robots into heaven” by James Blake (but the soundscape not the album). He’s also got a “chillout” soundscape which is also great IMO.

Hypermutator lineages of Pseudomonas aeruginosa can emerge when the bacterium persists following acute infections such as ventilator-associated pneumonia; these lineages have the potential to affect patient outcomes. Learn more in #mSystems: https://t.co/KIg5CtKtgT
A tweetorial explainer on Puente-Lelievre et al (2023). We are very excited about this paper & its implications for phylogenetics. Here's why! (Work stems from @HFSP grant "How life got moving: reconstructing and re-evolving the bacterial flagellar motor" https://t.co/2tpb4FvxSK)

Bridgend Ravens are devastated to announce the passing of JPR Williams.
One of Bridgend's most decorated players and an icon of World rugby, JPR served the club most recently as Club President.
Our thoughts are with JPR's family and friends at this sad time 💙

I really enjoyed speaking with @laubchad about the recent increase in Mycoplasma pneumoniae cases in China and Europe. A great opportunity to highlight the work of the @ESGMAC_escmid Mycoplasma pneumoniae Surveillence study co-led with @PMeyerSauteur @cardiffmet@CardiffMetRIS
