Good morning, friends! ☀️
I’ve been a little MIA since Vegas dealing with a family emergency. I’m doing just fine, and thankfully things are heading in the right direction with the fam. ❤️
Really appreciate everyone who reached out to check on me. Means more than you know!
Looking forward to getting back to my usual shenanigans with you all very soon! 😂🍻
‼️The more you know! Did you know the Islamification of America began in the early 1900s?
In the early 1900s, Henry Ford needed a lot of workers for his car factories near Detroit. In 1914 he started paying five dollars a day. That was about twice what most factory jobs paid. The high pay pulled in people from all over, including the Middle East.
Men came from places that are now Lebanon, Syria, Palestine, and Yemen. Some were Christian. Many were Muslim. Hard times back home pushed them to leave. The Ottoman Empire was falling apart, and jobs were scarce. Word spread that Ford paid well and had steady work.
Ford’s own records counted 555 “Syrian” workers in 1916. They lived near the Highland Park plant, where the Model T was built. In 1921, Arab, South Asian, and European Muslims opened the first purpose-built mosque in the United States, right across from that factory.
When Ford opened the big River Rouge plant in Dearborn in the 1920s, many of those workers followed. Muslim families from southern Lebanon settled in Dearborn’s Southend. Yemeni men also came. Local stories say Ford wanted some of them for ship work, because he ran boats that brought materials to his factories. They stayed, brought relatives, and built shops, mosques, and neighborhoods.
Ford hired people from dozens of countries, not only Muslims. But the jobs he offered are a big reason Dearborn became one of the main Arab and Muslim communities in America.
Washington is having a little trouble figuring out what time it is. 😂
Meanwhile, those of us in Arizona are just watching the show. ☕️
