Walk with me…
First, what you feel is entirely valid.
Exactly a year ago today, I travelled for my PLAB 2. Of course, at this point, I already knew the UK route wasn’t as promising as it used to be, but I had already started the journey. And even when I passed, I didn’t post pictures because I didn’t want people asking questions months later about why I was still in Nigeria. I am honestly tired of answering questions about it. Worse still, people who know nothing about the journey keep disturbing me with their questions and opinions.
I stayed back in the UK for 5 months. And while I was away, my grandfather died. My major grief stemmed from the fact that I had promised I was going to pamper him in his old age because he was such a sweet grandpa. But na me no quickly blow.
I really wish Nigeria were a better place or even offered a promising future. Now, I’m learning how to be less bothered by factors beyond my control. You have tried so much to give yourself a better life. And while you might not be seeing the results rn, you cannot undermine your efforts or let this country do that to you.
I still believe better days are coming. And while I hate to compare, I feel grateful about my life so far because it could actually be worse. Hope and gratitude keep me in check.
Cut yourself some slack and don’t whip yourself because of systemic lapses you cannot control. When you are tired, catch a break, go out and touch grass, and then go again.
I am sorry you are going through this. I pray God makes your journey easier, and keep your folks long enough to eat the fruit of their labour.
I never realized jogging in your 50s would be a great way to meet new people.
Just today, I met two nurses, two EMTs, and a cardiologist.
I was so close to meeting Jesus too.
