BREAKING🚨: Thierry Henry on Egypt win against Australia & Mo Salah penalty
"When I saw Mohamed Salah walk up to take that penalty, I was thinking, 'Surely not.' Then he does a Panenka. In that moment, you're not just taking a penalty you are making a statement.
People only celebrate a Panenka when it goes in. If it doesn't, they call you arrogant, disrespectful, irresponsible. That's football.
What impressed me wasn't the technique; it was the courage. To attempt that in a World Cup knockout match, with millions watching, against Australia, knowing your country's hopes are on your shoulders... that's pressure very few players can understand.
If he misses, everyone is talking about the decision instead of the player. The headlines would have been brutal. They'd say he cost Egypt the game because he tried to be clever.
But that's the difference with the truly elite players. They trust their ability even when the consequences are enormous. Salah didn't panic, he committed to his decision completely.
That's why I respect it. Not because it was a Panenka, but because it showed unbelievable confidence under the biggest pressure. Football remembers courage when it succeeds but it often forgets the bravery it takes to even attempt something like that."
🚨 Carlo Ancelotti on why he did not celebrate wildly after Gabriel Martinelli’s late winner for Brazil against Japan:
🗣️ “People asked me why I didn’t celebrate, but football is also about respect. Yes, we were happy to win, but I looked across and saw a Japanese team that had given absolutely everything. They fought with incredible courage, and I know exactly how painful a defeat like that can be.”
“Of course I celebrated inside because my responsibility is to Brazil and qualifying was our objective. But I’ve been in football for many years, and I’ve experienced both victory and heartbreak. Sometimes the best way to respect your opponent is to remain humble in your biggest moments.”
“Japan made us suffer for ninety-five minutes. They deserved our respect, not exaggerated celebrations. Brazil are through, but we know we must improve. Tonight we celebrate the qualification, but tomorrow we go back to work because the World Cup only gets more difficult from here.”

To every player who went undrafted yesterday: keep tunnel vision on your vision. Don’t let one moment define your journey. Your time is coming. Stay with it, keep working, and trust the path. Everyone’s route to the destination is different, but every journey is meaningful. -TC
