MLB Network’s Harold Reynolds called Bob Horner the first “college legend” and told the story of how Horner was once the closer at ASU.
Horner did not play a single game of minor league baseball, he went straight to the Major Leagues from Tempe.
Sun Devil Baseball is saddened by the passing of Sun Devil Athletics Hall of Famer Bob Horner.
Horner helped lead ASU to three consecutive College Word Series appearances, including the 1977 National Championship and was named the Most Outstanding Player of the CWS. Horner was the very first Golden Spikes Award winner, as well as The Sporting News Player of the Year. The Atlanta Braves made him the Number One overall pick in the 1978 Major League Baseball Draft. In 1999, Baseball America ranked Horner the #2 College Player of the Century Team.
Congratulations to our guy @andrewmo03 as he made his MLB debut this past weekend with the @Twins

The FIRST 30 win team in D2 Baseball in 2026...@CMUMavsBaseball at 30-3!
Colorado Mesa completes the sweep to go 16-0 in RMAC play. Think that's impressive? Well, what's also impressive is that they have won TWENTY NINE straight games against D2 opponents, their last loss was Feb 7th!
Also impressive is the Mavericks have a team 3.77 ERA, which playing in the RMAC equates to about a 2.42 ERA!
This team will certainly move up in the rankings from No.4 and it wouldn't be shocking to see them one of the top two spots.

College football's most decorated head coach Nick Saban spoke at the White House on Friday at a college sports roundtable hosted by President Trump.
Saban called on lawmakers to fix issues he has seen at the collegiate level, where Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) deals have turned the focus away from education.
"How much does anybody talk about getting an education anymore? Nobody talks about it at all, which is the most important thing any of these student athletes can do in terms of enhancing their future."
