@RJ_SanDiego I love CBT and actively utilise it often but it is not, and never will be, a panacea. Yet I think striving for it to be more than it is, is important to keep moving us forward. All therapies (& clinicians) are imperfect and have room for development! Academia is the broken bit!
@RJ_SanDiego …. Some to great success (e.g. DBT) and others not so much. The challenge then comes in not hanging on to things that don’t work because the time and effort people invested in them. Also elements like publication biases that push people to publish or exaggerate outcomes
@RJ_SanDiego Not sure reactive competition is the driver for the proliferation of adaptations and approaches that uses the ‘CBT’ moniker. OG CBT has its limitations and many try to adapt and make it work for more people and difficulties, whilst trying to make it more efficient and accessible

I feel like more youth mental health treatment research papers should start their method sections with "In a sample of children whose caregivers had the time, resources, understansing of mental health, and trust in research(ers) to enroll their kid in a clinical trial.."

Tip for students going off to college: study 80s/90s pop culture. Particularly Ferris Beuller, Princess Bride, Simpsons seasons 2-5. Your gen x/early millennial profs will try to connect with you through these, and will be confused/sad when you stare blankly at them. Not joking.
