My grandma did end up dying without ever seeing her sister again.
And now Trump is working to bring back an even worse version of the travel ban that will impact American citizens from 43 countries. Disgusting.
.@yassaminansari many Iranian researchers with USCIS-approved National Interest Waivers (EB2-NIW) fear the new travel ban could block them from contributing to the U.S. Please stand for fairness and keep the doors open to talent. #LetIranianScholarsIn@marcorubio

@elonmusk Dear Elon, we believe that you still oppose unfair blanket entry bans. Again, Iranian students, researchers, scientists and families will face a new ban on F, J, EB and family visas. Hope that every individual be judged based on the eligibility not the nationality.

Dear
@realDonaldTrump
, your inauguration speech gave hope to Iranians. Many visa applicants with exceptional abilities in EB and student categories face prolonged AP. Hope talented individuals be judged based on their qualifications, not nationality.

@elonmusk@farzyness Thank you for acknowledging Iranian talent! Many skilled Iranians in science and tech are facing long delays with the NIW visa process, hindering their contributions to U.S. innovation. Your support in highlighting these processing timelines would be invaluable.

Anyone – of any race, creed or nationality – who came to America and worked like hell to contribute to this country will forever have my respect.
America is the land of freedom and opportunity. Fight with every fiber of your being to keep it that way!

@elonmusk Many talented Iranians came on H1bs, but even more came on family based, employment based, and even diversity lottery visas. Do you have thoughts about what Iranians will all face in the new administration?
Journo tip- we represent over 100 talented Iranians in multiple lawsuits (in LA and DC) who Biden is keeping out now. And we’re contemplating motions for preliminary injunction given Trump’s promise to re-enact the travel ban on Jan 20. Feels newsworthy.
For many Iranian students admitted to U.S. universities, the coming weeks are critical as they await visas to begin their studies this spring.
Over 1,000 Iranian students and researchers are facing prolonged U.S. visa processing times—many waiting more than six months. These delays have forced these students to defer their fully funded admissions multiple times, with many now at risk of losing their academic positions altogether.
These students only ask to be treated based on their individual merit, free from political circumstances tied to their nationality and birth places. Delays like these not only hinder their academic futures but also deny universities access to the incredible talent and contributions these scholars bring.
Let’s raise awareness and urge relevant authorities to expedite student visa processes so these talented individuals can continue their academic journeys. Academia thrives when it embraces diverse perspectives and provides equal opportunities to all, regardless of where they come from.

I came to the United States in 1999 as a 12 year old boy.
My parents, who are Iranian immigrants that fled the 1979 Revolution, settled in Spain around that time.
I was born in Spain in 1987.
12 years later, my family came to America to live out the American dream. Spains economy was in shambles. My family was desperate for a better life.
2 years after we moved to the States, in 2001, 9/11 happened.
My already unstable world from the massive move suddenly became less stable.
Then, in 2008, my family almost lost everything due to the financial crisis.
It took my family years to rebuild.
Then, in 2016, I was told that America had elected the most evil person in the world, Donald Trump. A true racist.
I questioned the motives of the American public. If Media is telling me this, it must be true. How can something so large be wrong about this story?
Then, in 2020, COVID.
During this entire time, I've had to fight an uphill battle against pessimism. I've had to fight constant reminders that the world is broken. That governments are corrupt. That massive positive change is impossible.
Now, in 2024, this is the first time since I can remember where feeling positive about the future feels effortless.
This is the first time, ever, that I feel like the world can be a better place. That wrongs can be righted. That prosperity is possible for the many, not the few.
It's been way too long. We are due.
