Jonathan De Barros never gave much thought to the abortion debate. He says he wasn’t pro-choice or pro-life. It simply wasn’t something he had seriously considered.

Then, in 2016, everything changed.

His wife was five months pregnant when they tragically lost their son. She had to deliver him, and Jonathan held his baby boy in his arms.

“He had all his fingers and toes. He had the same flat feet as me, my brother and my dad.”

Then hospital staff asked whether they wanted them to “dispose of him.”

Jonathan couldn’t believe what he was hearing.

“That’s my son.”

He and his wife buried their son alongside Jonathan’s grandparents. For him, there was no longer anything abstract about the value of an unborn life.

“My son wasn’t a lump of flesh.”

That heartbreaking experience became the moment Jonathan says he became a pro-life advocate.
