NSAID medications taken before marathon running can cause serious harm.
In my opinion no marathon should be partnered with NSAIDS of any type, even gels. The fact that @LondonMarathonis sponsored by voltarol, I believe, is a risk to runner welfare.
Although the gels are safer than tablets, they have potential risks. The association though can lead runners to a misunderstanding and take NSAID tablets thinking they are safe, especially as most runners don't understand the risks.
My article in the @DailyMailUK explains my thoughts and is based on being the medical director of the @BrightonMarathn since 2012.
Runner welfare should always be the absolute priority above everything else.
For that reason, I believe that @LondonMarathon should stop their partnership with voltraol with immediate effect.

Here is our latest publication. A response to the non-scientific IOC position on transwomen in sport. The IOC ignores biological reality, distorts the meaning of sport, & ignores female voices, thus failing to protect sporting fairness & safety for women
