WILD AT HEART was released 36 years ago today.
David Lynch won the Palme d’Or at Cannes for the film, but the jury’s decision split audiences at the festival. Lynch famously accepted the award to a mix of cheers and boos.
David Lynch’s use of sound throughout Eraserhead is one of a few core reasons this film is so memorable. But the decision to use a constant stream of white noise in place of a traditional score elevates the unsettling feeling & brings the audience closer to the story. This film was released in 1977 but it was light years ahead of its time. I really miss David Lynch.
