There was a time when India let go a great chance at the Davis Cup in 1974 .
A great Indian team, which had beaten Japan, Australia and a formidable Soviet Union team, to advance to the finals, and had a good chance to winning its first ever Davis Cup, refused to play South Africa in the finals.
A 20 year old Vijay Amritraj was at the peak of his prowess.
India chose principled opposition to Apartheid in South Africa instead.
They could have said this is just sports, dont mix sports and politics, for a champions starved nation, the Davis Cup would have been a massive achievement.
India put its principles first and foremost .

Remember that today.

Dont watch , dont follow the useless tamasha of an Indian Pak T20 match.
We dont do much for the country except posting on social media.
At least today do your bit by not watching this match.
There is no national pride in this match.
There would have been national pride if India chose not to play in protest against a terror sponsor.
I will do my little bit by not watching this match.
It does not matter in the cosmic play, but at least this much I can do for my country.
Shame on all those saying this is just sports.
In 1974 India had a principled stance.
In 2025 its all commercial, even in a sport which would not survive without India's participation, and without India's revenues.
Shame.
