DRPS recognizes National Indigenous History Month.
An opportunity to honour the heritage, contributions and cultures of Indigenous peoples in Canada. June was declared National Indigenous History month in 2010, after Nanaimo-Cowichan Member of Parliament, Jean Crowder, introduced a motion to make June a month of recognition for First Nations, Inuit and Métis.
Indigenous History Month provides an opportunity to recognize not only the historic contributions of Indigenous peoples to the development of Canada, but also the strength of present-day Indigenous communities and their promise for the future. 🧡
The Pride Flag was originally created in 1978 by Gilbert Baker and was later reimagined in 2018 by Daniel Quasar.
The updated Progress Pride Flag incorporates additional colours: white, pink, and baby blue—to represent transgender and non-binary individuals, as well as brown and black—to recognize People of Colour and people living with or affected by HIV/AIDS.
These colours are arranged in a forward-facing arrow on the left, symbolizing forward movement and that progress is still needed.
