Not only a night for astronomical observations but also virtual reality simulations, scientific talks and much fun: The #OpenDay at the observatory has been a success with almost 900 visitors. It was a pleasure to share our observatory with all of you #theobservatory#Bamberg
was completed in 2023 at the observatory! Next to an outstandig thesis, the award also recognized several achievements such as publications and obtained observation time. After completing his PhD at FAU Matti is now a PostDoc with our friends in Potsdam.

Throwback to a busy summer at Remeis ๐๏ธ
In June, the the Greek island Crete hosted Supernova Remnant III conference, where Prof. Dr. Manami Sasaki, as an invited speaker, reviewed X-ray SNRs in nearby galaxies, while Federico Zangrandi (PhD student) talked on the SNRs in the LMC.
On Friday, Ole Kรถnig from #theobservatory successfully defended his PhD Thesis titled โX-ray observations of accreting compact objectsโ where he studied the nova YZ Reticuli in the fireball phase, and timing features in the black hole X-ray binary Cygnus X-1. Congrats, Ole! ๐๐ผ

Congratulations to Julia Hรคfner from #theobservatory for successfully defending her master thesis! Julia tested RELXILLLPALPHA to model X-ray spectra coming from AGNs.
With eROSITA we now have the unique opportunity to study very large and old supernova remnants. Even in our Galactic neighborhood we are able to find new SNRs that could contribute to the "missing SNR problem" when extended to the entire sky.
J. Knies from #theobservatory published an exciting new paper on Monogem Ring SNR. J. Knies and collaborators studied the so-called Gemini Monoceros X-ray enhancement and they were able to discover two new supernova remnant candidates. https://t.co/bK3lDlVh3o

This #eRASS1 animation shows the #Xray sky as seen by #eROSITA. The X-ray bands are colour-coded according to their energy (red: 0.3-0.6 keV, green: 0.6-1 keV, blue: 1-2.3 keV). And a number of prominent sources have been highlighted. 4/9
