To fix the #FamilyDoctorShortage...
how many
family doctors
do we need?
The math should be simple, right?
A 🧵 to explain
why we need a whole
new math equation
to actually
fix the problem of
equitable access to
🇨🇦primary care

Our beautiful beloved father, grandfather, husband to Bev, and Hereditary Chief, Hemas Kla-Lee-Lee-Kla (Bill Wilson), passed away tonight surrounded by love and this glorious sunset…(1/2)
I am heartbroken💔my friend. Bill Wilson is an (insufficiently well known) Cdn hero for his work to negotiate Section 35 of the 1982 Constitution, enshrining the rights of Indigenous peoples. But just as important, he is your dad, dearly loved by your family. My deep condolences.
Yesterday, Ontario turned back the clock to the stone age in terms of public health measures.
This legislation will kill people and we will all see the consequences. More overdoses, more deaths, more unsafe public drug use.

A final reminder to parents,…..
Your dreams may not be your children’s dreams.
Becoming a pro athlete or a 7 figure per year professional happens infrequently.
Rejoice, rather, in their self directed fulfillments, their interests, their joy.
It’s about them.
@TheBreakdownAB Doctors are pretty busy people (trust me on this)
We want to be spending our energy on caring directly for Canadians, not looking over our shoulders for politicians who want a seat in the exam room.

As a family doctor:
I think the healthcare that I was educated to provide should NOT be influenced by politicians.
Every patient deserves privacy + the best personalized application of evidence-informed healthcare.
Not political whims.

Canadians have a right to make personal choices about their health with the support of their families, the guidance of licensed, regulated health professionals and free from political interference.

The Canadian Medical Association comment on the legislation brought in by the UCP in Alberta this week 👇
Canadian physicians are calling out political interference in Canadian's health care choices.

In case you aren’t paying attention- recent AB legislation criminalizes doctors who provide evidence based care. As did the opiate prescription changes. This is deeply worrisome.
So far targets people with opiate use disorder, kids with gender dysphoria.
Who’s next?
The RISK of LONG COVID ⤴️ with each infection
13% after 1 infection
23% after 2
37% after 3
...and yet
- RAPID TESTS aren't widely available
-MASKING isn't required in healthcare settings
-AIR FILTRATION is under-utilized
Alberta is now a place where the government can police personal & evidence supported health decisions.
Any notion that the Bill of Rights or this overtly hateful & ideologic-based bill enhances “freedom” is deluded in the most dangerous of ways.

Hey Premier Smith why don't you pick on people your own size.
Going after vulnerable kids is appalling & the opposite of using politics to improve lives. It also makes it clear that you only care about saving your own skin. The worst of politics and politicians.
