@sarahkliff@ACLU@pewresearch NY outlaws the use of civil arrest warrants for medical or consumer credit debt. But people can still go to jail if they miss a court date for unpaid traffic tickets.
@sarahkliff Thank you so much for writing this piece. According to @ACLU and @pewresearch some 44 states have laws that allow people to be arrested for contempt of court or violating a judicial order if they fail to show up to court once a default judgment has been issued against them.
I know there are a lot of people in need right now, but if you can given even a small contribution, it will help these sisters weather the next stretch.
My friend @mayrap_q posted this on another platform. The way she described her friend Mirabelle and what she is going through (with our country's appalling lack of caretaking infrastructure) inspired me to repost here. Please give if you can or re-share. https://t.co/fpfq5A2My0
She and her sister, who also lived in NYC, were living their best lives here and I loved hearing what they were up to. Then she got Covid and the rest of the story is described in the funding request below.
This decision is just wrong. It is the DA's decision to prosecute a case - the idea that he should have to seek permission from the state attorney general on whether to oppose a defense petition to overturn a conviction is ridiculous.

Also, while everyone can empathize with the family of victims in a murder case, they shouldn't have had standing here. DAs don't represent victims. They act in the interests of justice.
@RLSWrites @nytopinion While the bills that you refer to recognize that coercive control is a form of domestic violence they do not criminalize it. I think the prosecutors in this case definitely made the points you are making.
@dieworkwear I love your account. I hate that these replies dominate the feed. I hope you see from the number of likes your posts receive that this is the result of an algorithm not a reflection of how many people value your opinions.
@usermooseontwt I suggest people report this post. It's not only incredibly offensive to disabled people, why is this person filming in a public restroom. What is wrong with you all who find this funny?
@Robin199944 Not sure how Mr. Brooks' case is relevant. He was prosecuted at the state level so Biden couldn't pardon him and he didn't receive the death penalty.
