A month ago, we came together as a leadership team to think deeply, plan intentionally, challenge one another, and align around what our students deserve. Those moments were filled with vision, collaboration, and an unwavering commitment to excellence.
Next week, we return for our Summer Leadership Institute Series; however, this time the conversation shifts.
Planning becomes execution.
Ideas become action.
Vision becomes reality.
I’m excited to spend the week alongside our outstanding principals and assistant principals as we continue strengthening our leadership and preparing for a remarkable school year at KIPP St. Louis.
One of our biggest priorities is ensuring we don’t spend our time trying to solve Tier II and Tier III challenges when the root cause is often Tier I instruction.
Great intervention will always have its place. But our first responsibility is to ensure every student experiences high-quality, standards-aligned, engaging instruction the first time. When Tier I instruction is strong, fewer students require intervention. When “first teaching” is intentional, rigorous, and responsive, we create opportunities for every learner to succeed before remediation ever becomes necessary.
This week is about building systems that support exceptional first teaching, strengthening instructional leadership, and ensuring our leaders know how to coach for the practices that make the greatest impact in classrooms every single day.
Because excellence isn’t built by what we do after students struggle.
It’s built by what we do before they ever have to.
Here’s to another week of learning, challenging our thinking, sharpening our practice, and preparing to give every student the high-quality educational experience they deserve.
Let’s get this work!

This quote suggests that in life, people can be divided into two categories: those who thrive and adapt to challenging environments (the jungle) and those who lead more comfortable, sheltered lives but may lack the skills needed to navigate difficult situations (the zoo).
Doing the right thing doesn’t always equate to praise/recognition. Although being recognized and rewarded provides us with extra motivation, stay locked in to your original purpose! Our city needs us and there’s no better time than now. #IfNotUsThenWho#IfNotNowThenWhen
Sometimes, we leave a lot on the table within organizations and it’s not our fault. Many employees have talents that go unnoticed due to insecurities within leadership. As leaders, we must make that potential kinetic to maximize the success of a team! #LeadWithPassion
Knowing “more” than someone can be misleading; however, being resourceful and having different skill sets is the real conversation. This ideology is missing in many organizations due to the “threat” mentality. You want them to take your place one day and outgrow you!

Hope is not a strategy, but HOPE is necessary to develop a strategy. As I reflect on the unrest in society, we must have HOPE beyond today. Amid a pandemic, we also face the infection of injustice in America. Let us rise up together and demonstrate HOPE in ACTION. #InThisTogether
