Attacks on emergency workers are despicable. Our police, NHS staff and firefighters deserve our respect and support. The APPG on Emergency Care, which I chair, is launching an inquiry into abuse and violence suffered by staff in emergency departments.
Housing is an important issue across the country, @andyburnham is absolutely right to be ambitious about council housebuilding. The costs of temporary accommodation have spiralled and are going to bankrupt councils if not tackled.
Busy Sunday shift in A&E today. It’s much cooler today but the incredible team here powered through during the extreme heat we saw this week. They’re a credit to our community.
Owing to a local burst water main, I know some residents on the Hazelhurst Estate have been without water today.
I have been in touch with Thames Water who are on site distributing bottled water. They tell me they are working at pace to resolve the issue.
In the meantime, both Tooting Library and Earlsfield Library are available as cool spaces locally. They are offering indoor spaces for local people to shelter from the sun, cool down, and take respite from the heat.
The heatwave is here, and it's set to intensify. Please check in on elderly neighbours, stay hydrated, and find shade when possible. Take care, Tooting!
Today marks ten years since we voted to leave the EU.
It’s clear Brexit has failed to deliver on the promises made. Instead of growth, we’ve seen economic hits and a rise in the far right. Now is the time to tighten our relationship with our friends and allies on the continent.
The Wandle is a rare natural treasure - a chalk stream vital to our community. Yet last year, 161 hours of sewage were dumped into it. For London Climate Action Week I got stuck in to clean up the river.
Keir led us to an outstanding victory in 2024 which enabled the country to move on from 14 years of Tory austerity and chaos. The economy is growing, many children are out of poverty, and renters in Tooting have more rights. I wish him well.
Happy Father's Day to all the amazing dads and father figures in Tooting and beyond! Your love, support, and guidance make an incredible difference. Hope you all have a wonderful day filled with joy and appreciation.
The cowardly Islamophobic attacks across Edinburgh are deeply distressing. Nobody should face hatred for their faith. My thoughts are with all those affected and their loved ones.
Nine years on from the horrific terrorist attack in Finsbury Park, we remember Makram Ali, whose life was sadly taken on this day, and his loved ones who continue to carry the pain of this loss. My thoughts today are with all those who were affected by this horrific act of terror.
Attacks like this seek to undermine the freedom and values that make our city great. This day is another reminder that we will never tolerate Islamophobia or hatred of any kind. Diversity is one of our city’s greatest strengths, and one we will always champion as we continue to build a safer London for everyone.
A big congratulations to @AndyBurnhamGM on his resounding win in Makerfield!
These results are clear, when the progressive vote unites, Farage and Reform don’t stand a chance.
Polling Day is here in Makerfield and I'm glad to be out supporting @AndyBurnhamGM! Only Andy can keep Reform out and stand up for the values we all hold dear - if you live locally, get out and vote before polls close at 10pm.
