An oldie but a goodie. Let's do what we do and present the alternative to see which is more silly.

Rather than the miraculous preservation and expansion of the human race, let's pretend it was all up to what is currently genetically possible. How many humans were there in the evolutionary system at the beginning? What was the dating pool like at the earliest possible moment when sexual reproduction became a thing?

Even in the magical fairytale universe where slime evolved into humans, at some point along the line you would have a male or a female with absolutely no counterpart. Unless you believe that both sexes magically evolved at the same time, and what luck, since each would need the other to be able to reproduce.
