On May 17th, our union signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the National Political Committee, bringing our months-long layoff negotiations with the board to a close.
We stand in solidarity with our WBNG siblings facing unjustified and union-targeted layoffs at SPLC. We are also horrified by the choice to cut immigration work while the Biden admin is normalizing fascist border policy & while the threat of even worse hangs over us
Today, @splcenter - an organization with nearly a billion dollars in reserves, given an F rating by CharityWatch for “hoarding” donations - gutted its staff by a quarter.
We're helping UAW 4811 hold the line through direct strike support!

We put this MOU offer forward knowing that 0 layoffs were unacceptable for the NPC, and although we disagree that 5 were necessary, we are glad that they fulfilled their contractual mandate to engage with us and accepted a proposal that lowered the total number of layoffs.
Our 420 by 4/20 membership drive was a huge win! We added over 60 members in a month. DSA is not doomed to shrink. We can organize and grow! Join: https://t.co/JZFDniBJIB
Special thanks to DSA staff. Without their management of the member list this wouldn't have been possible!
For months, the DSA union has been negotiating with the NPC to prevent mass layoffs. The NPCs proposed number would hurt DSA's organizing capacity, and is not economically justified by the updated financial data — which in reality has improved greatly since this process started.
Our revised MOU proposes increasing the number of layoffs we would accept from 2 to 4. We believe an MOU that limits the number of layoffs and brings this process to a close as soon as possible, in this dire moment, would be best for the organization and our members.
Update: The NPC majority has declined to attend tonight's meeting, so we are going to cancel it. We plan to invite the NPC to a private meeting and bargain our MOU. Time is of the essence, as our layoffs notice mark May 25th as the last day for seven unit members.
We received an offer to meet with them to discuss the MOU so we’ve asked them to meet with us on Monday 4/29 at 8 PM EST. We would like to invite DSA members to this call. RSVP Here: https://t.co/xUNv6tuZsl
DSA belongs to its members. We invite DSA members from all tendencies and factions to attend our meeting with the NPC tonight. This is everyone's org, not just the NPC's, not just the Union's, not just the caucuses. Share the link with your chapters too. https://t.co/nYuIA6tdB6

We are willing to compromise. We’ve offered the NPC 2 staff to lay off in addition to the 7 folks who have already left during just this NPC term. This totals more than half a million dollars of additional savings beyond the NPC’s deficit goals. Our MOU:

We opened meetings to members and held closed meetings so that they could speak frankly after they refused to speak in front of members. We held an informal meeting to let them know we would respond accordingly if they did not attempt to negotiate. We have reached that point.
