@Srm67 @Grain_Cycles @BrianElsasser2 @UNass52675 We also think corn leaf aphids played a roll in yield reduction even when sprayed. Either too late or a too low of a rate of cheap insecticide. Also found corn hybrids that were more susceptible or attractive to aphids. Also in some cases rootless corn caused delays in some hyb.

@Srm67 @Grain_Cycles @BrianElsasser2 @UNass52675 Central Illinois seems down on corn yield and the amount down maybe tied to planting the wrong corn hybrid this year. 20-40 bushel swings between hybrids. And then there is the yield loss in the low places in the fields even with full population and not due to long term ponding

@FoulkShay The guidelines for applying fall NH3 would suggest it’s not the right time to be applying. Soil temp is not at 50 degrees and trending downward. For the next 10 days. Early applied NH3 in 2025 was half nitrate by mid December.

@DschaeferDaniel Years ago a company needed one for plot work. Shipped the production model Massey from Europe to Kincaid, had everything done to make it an XP plot combine and it was $440,000 delivered to them. We have access to one local if we were smart enough to run it 😂

Cover crops are making their appearance in Urbana.
Photos taken today, 2 weeks after planting, and show good emergence across plots

@FVCJeffW They are expensive and need maintained a lot. We don’t own it. Hire the small plot stuff done. We did price one a few years ago and it had a $400,000 plus price tag.

Good week to combine some corn and soybeans at Grant Farms. I believe my dad’s 58th harvest by my count

Pretty cool. Jim Kennedy used to have setups like this on his Cases. 930-1070, etc

Have a custom combine at Wapella wrapping up with us in the next day or two. He's looking for work if anyone needs a hand to finish up. JD780 with straight cut head. Very good operator. I can pass on number if anyone is interested.

If you've ever been curious how Mahindra tractors are made this is a rare intimate moment almost never photographed. 🫢🫢🙄 But seriously ALWAYS make sure it's out of gear before you jump a starter! Not mine happened west of town. And before somebody says it.
Yes you can't park there! 😬😬😬

I feel this menu isn’t correct. The farmer’s choice-shouldn’t that be 2 donuts and 32oz Diet Dew from the local gas station? Maybe it’s just me.

@Sentinel_Ag @BobGunzy I would think just the cost of diesel fuel would have cut into the fall tillage that’s being done in central Illinois. In the past 50-60 years of tillage we have reduced Drummer SOM by nearly half.
