Keir Starmer has officially announced his resignation as Labour leader. He will step down as Prime Minister once a successor is chosen.

Following intense pressure from his own MPs and a massive by-election victory for rival Andy Burnham, Starmer conceded he is no longer the man to lead Labour into the next election.

He has triggered a rapid-fire summer timetable to hand over the keys to Number 10.
