@RuadRauFlessa@DenVillaflor@oscxpiastri This is the choice that alpine made though, balancing risk and potential reward,
Ofc there ended up being a red flag so all teams ended up being able to change tyres for free anyway but that was just lucky for them not unfair,
@DenVillaflor@oscxpiastri unfortunate as that is as the og penalty shouldn't have been given.
1. He wouldn't have had to serve it if he didn't pit in the first place
2. it is kind of a seperate issue, he could have stayed out to avoid the problem, but in pitting loses the right to not serve the pen
@huntbrothersF1@wbuxtonofficial not punishing another driver unfairly isn't punishing the other drivers a second time though, it's just not punishing Gasly because his team had the foresight to stay out and appeal a wrongfully given penalty
dont get me wrong, Russell etc were screwed over but not by alpine
@huntbrothersF1@wbuxtonofficial Not really, yes the other drivers served an unfair penalty, but Gasly should not have been dropped from 3rd to 7th in the first place, it's not wronging the drivers a second time it's just not wronging Gasly at all
Still a very bitter pill to swallow for Russell etc I'm sure
@matchstickstorm It just doesn't though,
It sets a precedent that if you get an incorrect penalty that you genuinely disagree with and can prove is wrong, then you can not serve it and appeal afterwards
Which is not a bad thing
If you appeal penalties that are fair, they won't get removed
@FormulaRana@sapphicielle Due to the nature of the race, served penalties cannot be rescinded, but if it's not been served there is no reason it shouldnt be able to rectified to the correct decision.
This isn't handing Gasly a podium, its returning one that was unfairly taken away that he earnt on track
@FormulaRana@sapphicielle It's not the first time penalties have been appealed and rescinded post race
Also why is it a bad thing that if a team feels they've been given a relatively obviously unfair penalty they have the option to leave it to be added at the end and appeal with new information?
@Deannxxx0325@SkySportsF1 My assumption is that they would revoke any time penalties that were left at the end of the race, but there is nothing they can do about penalties that were served, probably the most fair outcome possible.
It's also key that this foul absolutely makes a difference to how the play carried on, if Raya being tugged from behind and having his catching arm held directly impedes his ability to play the ball, meaning without those fouls it's unlikely west ham score
THERE IS A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN JUMPING/STANDING NEXT TO THE GOALKEEPER MAKING SOME CONTACT, AND GRABBING THE GOALIES ARM AS HE TRIES TO MEET THE BALL
ITS NOT ROCKET SCIENCE FFS
Just put your agendas aside for one bloody second
Id be more willing to listen to debate on this but it's quite clear that everybody who disagrees what the decision is doing so because ultimately they don't want arsenal to win, and are annoyed that there was a foul.
