Just weeks away from retirement, Inspector Jagdish Prasad could have stepped back.
Instead, he stepped forward.
On February 8, at the Surajkund International Crafts Festival, when a giant joyride malfunctioned and panic erupted, the 58-year-old Haryana Police inspector ran toward danger.
As the swing tilted and began to collapse, he helped people escape, pulling them to safety, putting lives before his own.
In those final moments, a falling portion of the ride struck him. He was rushed to the hospital but didn’t survive.
Inspector Prasad had served the nation for nearly 36 years, earning a reputation for discipline, courage, and unwavering commitment to public safety.
In 2019–20, his service was recognised with the Police Medal.
He leaves behind his wife Sudha, daughters Nidhi and Deepti, and son Gaurav, along with a legacy that reminds us what duty truly means.
