What is Gensyn RL-Swarm?

Gensyn is a decentralized AI compute network. Instead of relying on a single cloud provider, it connects GPUs and CPUs from around the world into one global compute layer.

RL-Swarm is Gensyn’s open testnet framework for distributed reinforcement learning (RL).
It allows anyone with spare compute (GPU or CPU) to:

• Run training nodes that help train large AI models.
• Join collaborative swarms where models share progress and improve together.
• Earn rewards for contributing compute power.

RL-Swarm in short is a decentralized "supercomputer for AI training," built on top of the Gensyn network.

Participants can:

Run a node (on PC, GPU cloud, or VPS).
Join the AI Prediction Market as a Judge.
Monitor their performance on the official Gensyn dashboard.

1. Prerequisites & Hardware

To join the Gensyn RL-Swarm Testnet, you need a machine that can handle training. Two options:

a. CPU-only (minimum)

32GB RAM (arm64 or x86)

Warning: if you multitask heavily, training may crash

b. GPU (recommended)

Supported cards: RTX 3090 / 4090 / 5090, A100, H100

≥24GB VRAM recommended (but 8–16GB now works with lighter configs)

NVIDIA Driver + CUDA 12.4+

Advice:

Small hardware? Choose small models (e.g. Qwen2.5-0.5B or Qwen3-0.6B)

Big GPU? You can run larger models like Smoothie-Qwen3-1.7B or Qwen2.5-1.5B

2. Environment Setup

You can run a Gensyn RL-Swarm node in 3 main ways:

a. Windows (Home PC)

Install Ubuntu on Windows using WSL (Windows Subsystem for Linux).
Lets you run Linux tools while staying on Windows.

b. Cloud GPU Providers

Vast. ai → Cheap GPU rental (needs SSH key).
QuickPod → Simple GPU rental (no SSH key).
Hyperbolic → Alternative GPU marketplace.
Paperspace → Easy UI, beginner-friendly.
Lambda Labs → Designed for ML/AI users.
CoreWeave → Strong AI focus, good burst capacity.

c. VPS (CPU-only)

For users without a GPU.
Needs ≥32GB RAM.
Slower than GPU but works fine for testnet.
