#Affordable#housing is a hardship facing those in need. Without a home how does one store medicine, prepare #healthy meals, sleep and shower? Vouchers bridge the #affordability gap in rent. Vouchers work in #helping the #homeless.

@naehomelessness Tailored solutions are great when addressing homelessness. The system wide approach may look good on paper, but taking the time to critically assess the situation of one, and provide a permanent solution, is 100% better than temporary solutions that recycle those in need.
#Homelessness in Pasadena CA increased 28% over 2 years. The city is taking steps to ensure those in need are cared for by investing in #SocialServices. Much of the grant is being dedicated to #vouchers, which will #house families and keep them #united.

San Antonio, TX, expects to see a #population boom in the near future, including an increase in the number of homeless. “Instead of simply walking by the #homeless, San Antonians should offer eye contact or a #listening ear”

@Ed_Stafford@Channel4 What is one bit of wisdom worth sharing from this experience? Were there common themes in the conversations that you had with the homeless? (Our experience in the US is that they're not being listened to)
The "invisible" deserve to be seen and heard, thank you for doing this!
Did you know that most #Americans live paycheck to #paycheck? A survey conducted by @CareerBuilder determined that 78% of full-time workers live paycheck to paycheck and 71% report being in debt. Through #outreach and #support DTPH will continue to aid those in need
The #government#shutdown underscored extreme housing insecurity for #low-income, disabled, and elderly Americans that rely on housing assistance. Between 70,000 and 80,000 #Americans that fall into this group could have faced #eviction.

Share Homestead @ShareVanWA takes a #personal approach to improving the lives of their clients. They have given #families residing in the shelter a sense of #stability by doing away with their 90 day maximum stay cap while maintaining “common sense expectations.”

553,742 #Americans sleep on the street every night. 50 million #households can’t afford a basic monthly budget. Over one third of our country lives in constant fear of the straw that is bound to break the camel’s back. Their #struggle is visible, but so often overlooked
