To everyone around the world,
In Japan, the Law Against Damage to the National Flag came into effect on August 13, 2026.
Under this law, publicly damaging or defacing the national flag in a manner that causes serious offense is punishable by up to two years of imprisonment or a fine of up to 200,000 yen.
However,
A Japanese national flag cut in half
A Japanese national flag with its center cut out
Simply displaying flags like these is not, by itself, a punishable offense.
In fact, a lawmaker from Japan’s Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), who introduced this law, explained in the National Diet that publicly displaying a national flag that has already been damaged is not subject to punishment.
This is what we have as a law intended to protect our national flag.
Don’t you think this law is completely meaningless?
Japanese tourists walked out of the Louvre today just to be met with third world migrants rioting and burning Paris to the ground.
Something tells me they won't be fond of these barbarians coming to Japan.
