@elyannce In the event that the payment method was fraudulent to begin with, PayPal or any payment processor in general cannot side with you regardless since the money is clawed back to the correct owner. Though PayPal also overwhelmingly favors the buyer, too. I'm sorry this happened!
@elyannce This popped up on my feed very late, so I hope you're okay. It's also possible, given the comprehensive degree of chargebacks, that this person was also using a stolen card or bank account and the real owner finally noticed the fraudulent charges. Either way, horrible!
@DeckhandBoJa @mokidoucette You can disagree with the critique (I personally think it's a weak one in this context since you're right that the game has more than just this type of Middle Eastern clothing), but it would be a more valid one to make than throwing Orientalism around, is my point.
@DeckhandBoJa @mokidoucette They write on the post to educate yourself about Orientalism, but they use the word to just mean a vibecheck on non-Western clothes that look too "exotic." This outfit reduces a culture to its most decorative elements and is a valid critique you can make without invoking E. Said.
@DeckhandBoJa @mokidoucette JP drawing from Middle East aesthetics for a fantasy outfit in a game that draws from many other traditions is not Orientalism. It might be stereotypical/reductive. But it's not Western institution constructing authoritative knowledge about the East to justify colonial power.
@mokidoucette Yeah, it's totally chill to translate all European aesthetics into fantasy, but the moment you translate a non-JP, non-EU aesthetic into the game, suddenly it has to be modded out because it's problematic and orientalism and cultural appropriation.
