VINCI @VAResearch and @UUtah Informatics Researcher; love being a dad, husband, and member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Views are my own.
Reed Gardner was a giant in informatics. He was my mentor until his retirement. His genius was only matched by his kindness. Thank you for everything Reed!

Today in a team meeting, my colleagues shared what they were thankful for. It was a great way to prepare for Thanksgiving. I am thankful for the outstanding women and men of the VA VINCI team. It’s incredible what they accomplish every day in service of Veterans. #givethanks
I am thankful for the lasting impact of my grandmothers in me and in the world. Joye Cummings was the great family matriarch we called upon repeatedly to move mountains with her faith. Evelyn DuVall, 98 next month, has been a lifelong example of service and inclusion. #givethanks
I am thankful for Dr. Rachel Ramoni, the visionary chief of VA research. She leads the charge against COVID tackling therapeutic, vaccine, genetic, and data studies to drive better care. And in her spare time? She slays prostate cancer: https://t.co/0vNi5brSwZ #givethanks
I am thankful for Dr. Anthony Fauci and Dr. Deborah Birx. It's a scary time and their consistent expert voices drive hope for the future. Here are my youngest dressed as their "favorite professionals" #givethanks
What am I doing up in the middle of the night? #JoinTheJourney - @OHDSI 2020 has a virtual symposium that involves the absolute experts from Asia, the Pacific, Europe, and the US East Coast - and those are just the ones that are currently awake! Wait until tomorrow!
Tips on how to speak to our kids about systemic racism:
1. Unless you’ve been pulled over because of the color of your skin, you need to admit to your kids that you are part of the problem. This is not just the sum of our hidden biases -
Teach our children the value of every member in the family of humanity by our words and our deeds. We have a more powerful voice than we know - speak for Ahmaud Arbery, Charleena Lyles, and Atatiana Jefferson because they no longer can.
Professionally, I’m fighting COVID by supporting those smarter than me with data. Personally, I want to do all I can as well- I will join millions of my sisters and brothers of all faiths across the world in making Good Friday a day of fasting and prayer. I invite you to join me.
We are so grateful for the partnership of @theNCI and @NCIDirector ! This is a huge step towards fulfilling the @VAResearch goal to increase Veterans’ access to high quality clinical trials. https://t.co/rEci5q1J4D
