When I was little I got lost among women wearing niqab and I was looking for my mother while crying My mother came to me and told me she was with me but because I was so scared I pushed her away and ran saying You’re not my mom I didn’t calm down until she opened her niqab in front of me and I realized that she really was my mother Every time I remember this moment I still cry
Also during that same incident there was a woman wearing niqab who was making terrifying movements and after that I started having nightmares about girls wearing niqab and I would wake up extremely scared When I see a black abaya with a niqab in my room I start crying because of how scared I get and I start having terrifying thoughts and images in my head
I’m only 14 years old I was beaten because of the niqab and hijab even though my family knew about my phobia but I was still beaten and injured in my ear and now I’m receiving treatment for the effects of what happened
I feel like so many of my rights were taken away from me when I was a child and all I want is to regain my right to choose and to feel safe without being beaten or forced
And I believe the niqab should be banned because many children and teenagers like me suffer because of it It’s heartbreaking to see people’s stories and realize that I’m living through the same things and that many people around me are experiencing them too It’s heartbreaking that 90% of those who wear niqab were forced into it through beating
How long will women’s identities be covered? Why should a woman’s face which is her identity be covered? The niqab is not just a piece of fabric it takes away human rights and has many harmful effects It can cause shame lack of self confidence and emotional scars
My face is not shameful
I am not something to be ashamed of
And I deserve to have my voice heard
