@TrilbeeReviews The criticism was that this was making the doctor a “chosen one” and inherently special. The doctor’s character has always been presented as an eccentric time lord who chose to run away and is heroic by choice. There is nothing inherently special about them
@flofer19@tiger6lood@remi_t53@ComplexPop Walt blowing up Tuco’s office was 100% cool. It’s literally directed and edited that way. You’re watching a pathetic character become a super villain, literally the premise. He’s not a real person you don’t need to take moral high ground.
@TharriesYT Ncuti Gatwa is oozing charisma, but he hasn’t felt like the dr to me. his dramatic acting has been hammy and I chalk it up to the writing not giving his dr an internal logic. He’s lacking the agency and alien touch. Season was fun, but light and unmemorable imo
@alasdair_gbs I mean I get it, but ur enjoyment of a show can be independent of consensus. BBC and Disney will be just fine if their product is held to higher standards. I personally don’t like the lack of focus on characters this season has I and don’t want dr who to turn into streaming slop
@JayExci Ruby also doesn’t feel like a window character into the Doctor’s world. It doesn’t feel like there’s anything magical or significant about the aliens and worlds cause Ruby accepts it with such ease
@JayExci imo I think it’s the frantic pacing. RTD1 and Moffat era were far more interested in taking their time to establish vital character relationships and tone. Info felt gradual and natural. 15 and Ruby immediately act like they’ve know each other their whole life. I don’t buy it

@Doinkadect@_cosmicangst Just an assumption, but I feel like it has to do with the insane shooting schedule Moffat has mentioned. Arcs are probably so difficult to keep straight in a show like this. It’s balancing being an anthology that explores every genre but on a strict schedule.
@BadWolfArchives Not to say Martha’s presence in the episode didn’t make sense. Structurally, it makes sense to have a character to cut to to see the other side of the war, and also to give the doctor personal stakes. I think the ep would’ve been better spent exploring some themes it skims over
@BadWolfArchives Love the concept. Love the ending. It gets a little sluggish in 2nd half and I think Martha is what ruins it for me. Her characterization is off and she feels shoehorned in. Martha convinces the fish dude to go onto the dangerous surface and causes him to die for like no reason.
@K9Recaps@Doinkadect@TomInTheTARDIS Agree with all those picks except Caretaker. It’s not the most exciting episode, but I like the characterization in it. It’s very sitcom-y but in a good way IMO. I showed it to some friends who are new to Who and they weren’t into it though lol

Sometimes when I’m overwhelmed in public I go to the bathroom just to be alone, but then worry if I leave too soon people will think I peed without washing my hands, so I just stand there and imagine peeing and rinsing to accurately time it.
