Senior Gameplay Programmer @idSoftware currently on DOOM The Dark Ages, credited on DOOM Eternal, @FullSail Game Dev Graduate, Drummer (Opinions my own)
Crazy that it’s finally here!
I had a blast working on the shield and slayer combat, and I think you all will have just as much fun ripping and tearing (and sawing and parrying) your way through The Dark Ages! #DOOM
I'm heartbroken to hear about the Microsoft layoffs that have hit id Software. This triology of Doom has been incredible and wouldn't have been possible without these talented people. If you need some incredibly talented folks on your team, I have linked who I can so far below...
Hearing a whole bunch of senior engine and tools programmers were let go, which might indicate they’re planning to move from id Tech to something like Unreal.
Which imo would be awful. Eternal and Dark Ages are technical masterpieces and that deep engine knowledge pays off.
id software layoffs and organizational changes
-id software will remain open despite the Xbox layoffs, sales & closures
-95 staff laid off at id software
-Xbox wants Doom, Quake & Wolfenstein games more often
-More layoffs could come from a second wave of layoffs coming as part of today’s changes
-no organizational changes within id but rumours suggest less autonomy

The opportunity to launch a new DOOM game is an honor that our studio proudly embraces. And today we couldn’t be more excited to deliver the next game in this storied franchise, DOOM: The Dark Ages. Thanks to the support of everyone involved and the enthusiasm our incredible community has shown us. Now it's your turn to Rip And Tear.
Doom: The Dark Ages may strip away the mobility focus of Doom Eternal, but replaces it with a very weighty and powerful style of play that is different from anything the series has done before, and still immensely satisfying in its own way.
